1:72 German DM II depth charges, a set of six pieces is an accessory for a ship model, not a kit. It contains small parts of deck armament in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set contains six DM II depth charges in 1:72 scale. It is not a ship kit but an accessory of deck armament for the Special Navy kit and for other models of small surface vessels in the same scale. The parts are supplied on their own, without racks, rails or other equipment, unless stated otherwise.
In the Second World War the depth charge was the basic weapon against submarines. It was a cylindrical body with a charge and a hydrostatic fuze, rolled off the stern or thrown out to the sides and detonated at a set depth. They were carried not only by dedicated escort vessels but also by auxiliary craft converted from fishing boats, among them the armed fishing cutters designated KFK. On the deck of such a ship the charges were carried in racks along the rail and on rails at the stern, which is a rewarding detail for the modeler: it breaks up an otherwise empty deck and says clearly what the ship was for.
First check the small parts against the light and remove any flash. If they are cast in resin, wash them in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release residue, otherwise paint will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers, which will break a small part. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. Bond with super glue applied on a pin head; on larger surfaces the gel version pays off, because it gives you time to position the part. Apply a primer before painting, otherwise the metallic shade or the dark gray will smear at the first handling. Keep the weathering restrained: a thin wash in the grooves and light rust on the bands will give the charges a believable look in scale.
The set is an accessory for a ship model, which it does not include. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
