An injection-molded plastic kit of the carrier variant of the fifth-generation fighter Lockheed Martin F-35C Lightning II in 1:72 scale from Tamiya. The package holds parts in good plastic, clear cockpit parts, a decal sheet and building instructions. Characteristic features of the carrier version are the larger wings with folding tips and the strengthened nose landing gear.
The F-35C is the carrier version of the Lightning II program, intended for operation from US Navy aircraft carriers using a catapult and an arrestor wire. Against the land-based A version it has a greater wing area with folding tips, strengthened and sturdier landing gear and a larger fuel load for greater range. It is a single-seat, single-engined multirole aircraft with reduced radar observability (stealth) technologies.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. On stealth machines the finely suggested radar-absorbent surfaces and the panel lines come into their own only after the base coat of primer has been sprayed. We recommend an airbrush and low-contrast gray shades; lay the decals over a gloss coat and knock the whole thing back with a clear matte varnish. According to the instructions the folding wingtips can be built either spread or folded.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
