An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Republic P-43 Lancer fighter in the reconnaissance version in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Dora Wings. It is a short-run kit complemented by photo-etched parts, a painting mask and decals. Short-run molds call for somewhat more careful preparation of the parts than large-series kits.
The P-43 Lancer was a single-engine fighter from the Republic company of the late 1930s, the direct predecessor of the famous P-47 Thunderbolt. It was powered by a radial engine with a turbocharger, which gave it good performance at high altitude. In the fighter role it became obsolete quickly, but it proved useful as a high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft and a number of machines also served in the Chinese theater of operations.
With a short-run mold, expect to clean the parts, tidy up the mold parting lines and dry-fit before gluing. The detailed cockpit and the photo-etched parts will stand out with careful work; protect the glazing with the supplied masks. Use liquid modeling cement on the plastic and glue the fine photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting and lay the shades on with an airbrush; fix the decals over a gloss clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
