A resin FAB-500M-62 aerial bomb completed with the UMPK planning and correction module, in 1:48 scale, from the Russian brand Temp Models. The set is printed in resin, so it manages even the thin lifting surfaces of the folding wing. It is not an aircraft model but a separate piece of armament to hang under the wing of a finished model.
The FAB-500M-62 is a half-ton high-explosive fragmentation bomb of classic construction that has been in service for decades. The UMPK module is a later addition: a kit of folding wing and tail surfaces with a control system is fixed to the bomb, so that an unguided bomb becomes a weapon that glides after release and aims at given coordinates. The carrier can therefore release it from a considerable distance. On a model the whole thing stands out precisely because of that wing, which opens out after release.
The lifting surfaces of the module are thin, so release them from the supports over a working surface and without bending them. Sand the marks left by the supports wet and with respiratory protection. Wash the resin in lukewarm soapy water before painting. The body of the bomb and the module tend to have a different shade and finish, so spray them separately and glue them together at the very end with cyanoacrylate glue.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
