CR-3 Primary Color Pigments - Yellow Gloss (Cellulose)

What a primary color is for

CR-3 is the yellow component of the trio of primary colors, which the cyan CR-1 and the magenta CR-2 complete. A wide range of shades can be mixed from these three tones: with cyan it gives greens, with magenta oranges through to reds. Yellow is at the same time the most sensitive in mixing, because even a small part of the other colors pulls it over markedly, so it is added drop by drop. The word Cellulose in the name says that this is a solvent-based paint on a cellulose base, not a paint thinnable with water.

Where it is useful

As a pure yellow for warning features, markings and colored stripes, as a component when mixing greens and oranges and also as a brightening addition to darker tones. Yellow pigments are among the least covering ones, so a white or light gray base is usually laid under them. The gloss surface once dry is at the same time a good base under decals.

How to apply the paint

• Stir the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom.
• Thin it with the thinner meant for this range, not with water.
• Spray thin coats, as a thick application of a solvent-based paint can attack bare polystyrene.
• Write down the shades you mix as a ratio of parts, otherwise the same tone will not come out a second time.
• Work in a ventilated space and protect your airways.
