The green of early Japanese vehicles

The shade is listed as the green of Japanese army armored vehicles for the early period of their service. Japanese vehicles did not have one settled tone throughout the war; the finishes differed by maker and by date, and a number of paint ranges therefore allow for this with a pair of shades, an early one and a late one. This is the early one of the two and suits machines from the earlier period of service.

Where you will use it

The green serves as the predominant area of the vehicle. Japanese schemes laid brown and yellow fields over it, sometimes separated by narrow stripes, so it pays to have a layout plan before you reach for the other colors. Apply the green over the whole surface including the fenders, boxes and racks, otherwise it shows on the model that the parts were painted separately. On large flat areas a difference in intensity helps: lighten the middle of panels and leave the area around the rivets and the shadows darker.

Painting tips

• Stir the bottle before use so that the shade matches the label.
• Thin it with the thinner of the same range and spray two or three thin coats.
• Let the green dry thoroughly before you apply the other camouflage fields.
• You can manage smaller parts with a brush, while large areas come out more evenly when sprayed.
• Let the paint cure before masking, as a fresh film lifts with the tape.
