R-27R guided missile in 1:32 scale from Temp Models

The set brings a 3D printed replica of the R-27R guided missile in 1:32 scale from Temp Models. It is not a model of an aircraft but underwing armament with which you complete a finished build. The printed rendition gives the crisper edges of the stabilizing and control surfaces and finer surface detail than injection-molded plastic offers, and above all it does without a seam line across the whole body of the missile.

The real subject

The R-27 is a Soviet and Russian medium-range air-to-air missile carried by the MiG-29 fighter and the Su-27 family. You will know it at first glance by the unusual control surfaces in the middle of the body, whose outline recalls butterfly wings. The version designated R is semi-actively radar guided, which means that the radar of the launching aircraft has to illuminate the target throughout the flight.

Building and painting tips

The parts are printed from resin and are held only by thin supports. Cut them off with a sharp scalpel as close to the part as possible, sand the marks down with fine sandpaper and protect your airways while sanding. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint holds longer on a smooth print if you lay a thin coat of primer under it. Paint the underwing weapons separately and glue them onto the model only after the landing gear and the cockpit are finished.
