A transparent red that tints the base instead of covering it. It is used on tail lights, lamp lenses and for a deep red effect over a silver base. A 10 ml jar.
Responsibility details are not available.
Transparent shades have no covering pigment, they have a colored binder. The layer lets light through and tints whatever lies beneath it. On models such a red comes into its own above all on position and tail lights, on the lenses of car brake lights, on the beacons of emergency vehicles and everywhere it should look as if something really is shining behind a translucent cover.
Sprayed over a silver or chrome base, it gives the deep metallic carmine worn by competition bodywork and motorcycle tanks. The depth grows with every further pass, so you work well thinned and in several goes. A single heavy layer leaves streaks and kills the transparency, while three or four fine ones let you stop the shade exactly where it looks right.
The jar holds 10 ml. Although this is a range thinnable with water, on translucent tones Mr. Color Thinner gives a smoother and more even film. The base has to be completely dry before spraying, otherwise the solvent will attack the layer underneath and tide marks will appear in it. Work the material through, as settled pigment will otherwise make clouds in a translucent layer. Better not to sand a dry surface again, as scratches show up in it more than in an opaque coat.
Translucent tones can be mixed with each other and toned down with a drop of clear varnish, which gets you to orange and burgundy transitions without having to buy another jar. Over a matte base the shade darkens and loses its sparkle, so if you are after the effect of lit glass, leave a glossy surface underneath it.
