The paint carries the designation 2704 Gray N4 and aims at the equipment of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, for which the abbreviation JMSDF has become established. It is a gray shade from the Mr.Color line of the Gunze brand. Gray looks noticeably different on a finished model than it does in the bottle, so it pays to spray a test sample onto a piece of plastic and judge the shade only on that.
Stir the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom while it stands and badly mixed paint covers unevenly. It is applied with an airbrush in thin coats, which are left to set between each other, and a brush will serve for small areas and for picking out detail. The thinner intended for this line and the thinning ratio follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging. Work in a well-ventilated space and protect your airways.
Wash and degrease the surface of the model first, so that the paint adheres the same everywhere. A base coat will support an even surface, on which the shade comes out more accurately than on variegated plastic. Clean the airbrush and the brushes immediately after work, as dried paint is considerably harder to remove.
It will be appreciated by modelers who build Japanese postwar naval equipment and want a shade according to the designation the manufacturer lists. The kit, thinner, brushes and an airbrush are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
