A deep dark blue in a 10 ml jar, matching the finish of American carrier aircraft of the closing years of the Second World War. An acrylic base, thinned with water or with Mr. Color Thinner, primarily for an airbrush.

Midnight Blue is one of the darkest blue tones the US Navy ever carried on its machines. In the last years of the war the Grumman F6F Hellcat, the Vought F4U Corsair and the torpedo-carrying Avengers went over to a uniform dark finish meant to dissolve the silhouette optically over the open ocean. The sheen given in the name matches the state of a freshly finished machine, that is, before the surface went matte from sunlight and salt spray.
The paint has a water-based acrylic binder and comes in a jar with a volume of 10 ml. The whole Aqueous Hobby Color range was created above all for application with an airbrush. On an absorbent base it can be thinned with water; on smooth plastic, Mr. Color Thinner gives a cleaner surface and keeps the nozzle clear throughout the work as well.
With dark blues the pigment settles to the bottom faster than one would like, so stir the contents of the jar down to the last bit and come back to it between fillings of the cup. Paint that is not stirred through dries slowly and unevenly. Evening out the surface with Mr. Base White 1000 or with Mr. Surfacer 1000 gives the final tone depth and keeps differently colored parts, filled seams and added accessories from showing through it. For the matter look of a worn machine, add the H040 flat base. Apply the coats on the thin side and let them flash off between passes, as a single heavy pass of dark blue easily runs into the engraving and fills the fine surface detail.
