Among the low-contrast tones of modern naval camouflage belongs Mr. Color FS35237 grayish blue. The lacquer paint in a 10 ml package is applied with an airbrush.
Responsibility details are not available.
A gray with a noticeable blue cast forms one of the fields of the low-contrast camouflage with which the US Navy replaced the older finish of a more saturated upper gray and a white underside from the 1980s onwards. The intention was to reduce the visibility of the machine against the sky and against the water, so the differences between the individual fields are unobtrusive and often merge in photographs.
A model in this scheme convinces when the builder holds back and does not accentuate the transitions more than is actually visible. A slightly misted boundary looks better than hard lines, and wear is better handled with a mild change of tone than with dark stripes. The panels are accentuated carefully, otherwise a restrained camouflage turns into a chessboard.
The glass bottle holds ten milliliters of lacquer paint with an organic solvent. The coat dries quickly and stays smooth, so a decal and an intermediate clear coat sit on it without trouble.
Thin it only with the products intended for this range. The Leveling version additionally slows evaporation and lets the paint flow on the plastic for longer, which on large areas means a smoother surface. The supplier gives a ratio from one part thinner to one part paint down to half that dose, depending on how thick the bottle happens to be. Stir every time, even if you used the paint yesterday.
The whole finish rests on several close grays that differ from one another only a little. Anyone building a modern carrier machine needs the lighter and darker siblings from the same group alongside this tone, plus white for small areas. Having them together helps, because individually they cannot be told apart in a photograph.
