Mr. Color - žlutá

A basic opaque yellow

A pure yellow with no shift toward orange or green, that is a shade which serves in the palette as a starting point for mixing as well as a standalone color for prominent features. Yellow pigments are generally among the least opaque, so they are worked differently from dark tones.

Properties and thinning

The Mr. Color range is a solvent-based lacquer paint, although it is commonly grouped with acrylics. It is thinned exclusively with the thinner of the same brand, usually in the range of one to two parts of thinner to one part of paint. The bottle holds 10 ml and the dried film is hard, smooth and ready for masking as well as decals.

How to reach a full color

• Lay a white base under the yellow, as over a gray or dark base it loses saturation
• Build the shade in several light coats, never in one wet one
• Do the masking only after it has dried completely, as a soft coat comes away with the tape
• For brushwork add roughly a quarter of the volume in drying retarder

Warning stripes, propeller tips, recognition bands and identification areas on a fuselage are typical places where this shade comes into play.

Mixing and shades

• With red it gives the orange tones of warning features
• With blue the green shades that the palette lacks
• With white the paler cream tones for faded areas

Yellow behaves in the palette as a weak pigment, so when mixing with darker colors it is quickly lost. Add it therefore in larger doses than the dark shades.
