Open thrust reversers of the Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines for the Boeing 737-200 in 1:72 scale, intended for BPK kits. The model thereby takes on the look of a machine shortly after touchdown.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Boeing 737-200 carried a pair of Pratt & Whitney JT8D turbofan engines in long slim nacelles tucked closely under the wing. It is exactly this shape that makes the early 737 an aircraft that cannot be mistaken for anything else. After touchdown the rear part of the nacelle opens up and the thrust reverser turns the stream of gases forwards, so the aircraft brakes even on a shorter and wet runway without destroying its brakes. An opened reverser is visible only briefly, but it changes the silhouette of the engine all the more strikingly.
The set in 1:72 scale portrays the thrust reversers of the JT8D engines in the open position and is intended for BPK kits. It suits above all a model built in the landing configuration, that is with the landing flaps and spoilers deployed, where an open reverser rounds the whole scene off.
The parts are not polystyrene, so the joints are held by super glue. Cut excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part, sand the remainder down and wash and degrease everything before painting. Dry fit the parts and only then glue them, because both nacelles must be opened symmetrically, or the eye will notice at once. The inside of the reverser and the area around the exhaust tend to be smoke-stained and discolored by heat, while the outer surface of the nacelle stays glossy and clean; this contrast is the most interesting thing on the model.
For modelers of airliners who build a scene, not just a shape. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
