Total Weathering for Wargame and Sci-Fi — an AK interactive weathering set

This is a set of weathering products, not a kit and not a single paint. According to the name the set is aimed at wargaming and science fiction models, that is at a world where one does not build to a historical subject, but where the patina is mainly there to support the character of a model. The particular make-up of the package — which products and in what number it contains — is not stated here; you will find it in the manufacturer's data.

Why weathering is done differently in wargaming

Gaming and science fiction models are looked at from a greater distance and often in greater numbers, so fine effects get lost. It is more effective to work with contrast: bring the edges out more strongly, darken the hollows more distinctly and concentrate the patina into a few places that catch the eye. At the same time the procedure has to be fast and repeatable — with a whole army a technique that takes an hour per model does not pay.

How to work with a weathering set

• Weathering comes only onto a finished and dried coat, ideally over a unifying varnish that protects the base.
• Go from the whole to the detail: first even out the tone of an area, then bring out the relief and only at the end add local effects.
• Try the procedure out on one model from a unit before you let it loose on all of them.
• Keep a uniform style across the whole army. Different degrees of patina between models look distracting on the table.
• At the end even the surface out with a matte or semi-matte varnish, so that a gaming model can be picked up without worry.

Who it is for

For players and modelers who paint figures, vehicles and buildings for tabletop games, and for makers of science fiction models and dioramas. It will also serve a modeler from the historical branch who wants to try a bolder, more stylized approach to weathering.

A modeling product, not a toy. Work in a well-ventilated area, follow the manufacturer's directions on the packaging and keep out of the reach of children.
