Ferrari Red is an acrylic paint from the Vallejo Model Air range. It is a rich, clean automotive red with no shift toward orange or wine, that is the shade builders of racing and sports cars look for. The binder is water-thinnable, the paint is thinned with the acrylic thinner of the same brand, and in a 17 ml dropper bottle it stays usable for a long time, because it hardly evaporates while being dispensed.
Red pigments are among the less covering ones and easily go muddy over a dark base. The surest route to full richness leads through a light primer, or through a thin coat of a pink or orange undercoat that makes the red glow. Apply several thin coats rather than one thick one - in a heavy layer acrylic likes to flood the detail and dries poorly right through. Model Air dries to a satin to semi-flat surface, so if you want a typical automotive finish a final gloss clear coat is necessary; it is applied over well-dried paint and is also needed as a smooth base under decals so that they do not silver.
