Fluorescent red is one of the shades that are difficult to do with a brush or an airbrush: they cover poorly and over a dark surface they lose their brilliance. A ready-made sheet gets around that problem, because the colored layer is already applied on it evenly and at full intensity. It is used on areas that after application are to look as if they had been sprayed, typically on accessories for models of cars and racing cars.
First trace the shape or prepare a template and cut it out with a sharp blade on a hard surface; on curved areas leave a little overlap. The surface has to be smooth, glossy, clean and degreased, because every unevenness will show through the thin layer. Press down from the center to the edges with a soft squeegee or a cotton bud, so that no air is left under the area. A fluorescent shade looks best over a light surface.
Before you soak the sheet, check in the manufacturer's instructions whether it is not a self-adhesive form. The damage is one-way: a soaked self-adhesive foil is irretrievably ruined, whereas a wet decal can be put back into water at any time. Many decorative sheets are supplied in both forms, so it pays to check every time, even if you have used the same sheet before.
It suits builders of racing models and anywhere a rich signal-colored area is wanted. Check the size of the sheet and the number of pieces in the manufacturer's documentation. The model, paints and varnish are not included, unless stated otherwise.
