Forma na skalní útvary - malé ploché balvany

Rock formation mold, small flat boulders (Woodland Scenics)

This is a flexible casting mold, that is, a modeling aid and not a finished casting or a kit. Mixed modeling plaster is poured into the mold and once set you take a rock casting with the relief of small flat boulders out of it. You use the mold repeatedly, so one piece yields any number of rock pieces, which can be laid side by side to create continuous terrain with no visible repeating places. It is precisely small flat boulders that are the motif suited to places where a large rock face would look unnatural: on the edges of field roads, at the foot of embankments, on the banks of watercourses or in loose scree below a slope.

How the mold is worked

Dampen the inside of the mold with water before pouring, so that the plaster releases more easily and picks up even the fine structure. Mix the plaster to the consistency of thick cream, pour it into the mold and let it set. Take the casting out while it is still damp, as it then adapts more easily to the shape of the base. The rock pieces are stuck to the terrain with plaster slurry, which at the same time masks the seams between individual castings. They are painted best with heavily thinned earth shades and a dark wash that flows into the crevices and accents the relief; dry plaster soaks the paint up, so the shades can be layered gradually from the lightest. Wash the mold with water after use and let it dry freely, and do not use sharp tools on it.

Who the mold is for

• Builders of model layouts who want rock terrain to their own idea
• Makers of dioramas and display bases for models and figures
• Modelers for whom buying finished rock elements piece by piece does not pay
• Terrain making for tabletop games and role-playing games

Plaster, glue and paints are not included in the package. Mix plaster and sand castings in a ventilated space and protect your eyes and airways.
