It is not a model of an aircraft, a ship or a vehicle but an architectural model meant to be assembled, painted and displayed. You will find the scale on the box; the name of the product does not give it. Oura Tenshudo is a Catholic church in Nagasaki, completed in the 1860s. It came about at a time when Japan was opening up to foreigners again after a long isolation, and it is connected with the commemoration of the twenty-six Japanese martyrs. It combines European Gothic Revival forms, pointed arches, a tower above the facade and tall windows, with Japanese carpentry and local materials. It is among the most important monuments of modern Japanese architecture and is one of the main sights of Nagasaki.
Architectural models stand or fall on flat walls and right angles. Dry-fit the parts first and only then glue them with thin cement for polystyrene, which runs into the joint by capillary action and leaves no marks. It is rewarding to spray the whole with primer so that the shade of the plastic is evened out, and then to tone the white or lightly plastered surfaces gently. Window frames and divided reveals are most easily handled with masking and a fine brush. Bringing out the relief with a dry brush and a light dark wash in the joints will give the building depth; go carefully, as very little is enough on a light-colored building. The model shows well on a simple base with low greenery.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
