Anyone with more than fifty shades knows the feeling: bottles standing all over the desk, one falls behind the monitor and half an hour is gone. The dark version of this rack solves exactly that situation. The paints stand upright, caps up and all on one level, so you see them all at once and reach for them without having to think.
A dark stain has two practical advantages. First, fingerprints and the small smudges that sooner or later appear around the holes on light wood do not show on it. Second, it makes a contrasting background against which the caps of the individual shades stand out, so you recognize a paint by its cap even out of the corner of your eye. The dimensions stay the same as on the light version, that is 34 x 24 cm on the desk and 25 cm in height.
The quickest way to work is to order them by color family, that is browns together, greens next to them and grays at the edge. Anyone who builds a lot of one era can instead set aside one row for the shades of the build in progress and not have to look for them again before every session. It also pays to leave one outer row free as a parking spot for the bottle you currently have open.
