A thin wide styrene strip, a 0.38 x 6.3 mm section, 35 cm long. Suitable for skinning, patches and deck planking. One piece is a single strip.

Six and three tenths of a millimeter of width at a thickness of only thirty-eight hundredths makes this profile more a narrow sheet than a strip. The strip covers an area quickly, sits tight against the surface and its edge is so low that after sanding it almost disappears. That is exactly what you look for when repairing and re-skinning.
The small thickness allows the strip to be wrapped even around a fairly small diameter, so a cylindrical tank or a chimney can be skinned. When laying pieces side by side it is good to leave a hairline gap between them, which a dark wash then picks out and turns into a convincing seam between planks.
The cut is led by a knife with a guide, because at the greater width the blade easily twists and the edge is then not perpendicular. It is laid onto thin glue applied with a brush along the edge, which wicks under the whole area. The excess is sanded flush once dry.
One strip is thirty-five centimeters long and is sold by the piece. White styrene is painted directly, with no need for a base coat, and it takes acrylic pigments and washes as well. It is a good idea to get the grease from your fingers off the surface before laying it, otherwise the thin material adheres only in places and its edges lift over time.
