About product

RAF Cockpit Grey-Green - AIR (AK interactive)

RAF Cockpit Grey-Green - AIR is an acrylic modeling paint from AK interactive out of the 3rd Generation acrylic range, the AIR sub-range intended for aircraft models. It is a water-thinnable acrylic paint - it thins with water or an acrylic thinner of the same type, not with lacquer thinner. It is not a kit and not an accessory set but a paint on its own in a bottle, which the modeler buys to go with a model.

What the color represents

It is the gray-green interior color of British RAF aircraft of the Second World War. This shade was used on the cockpits, instrument panels and internal structures of machines such as the Spitfire, the Hurricane and the Lancaster - which is why you will meet it on practically every British aircraft of that time. Interior colors are tied to a particular air force: a British cockpit has a different shade from a German or an American one. That is exactly why this shade exists at all and why it cannot be replaced with just any gray-green - with an open cockpit, the accuracy of the interior is the first thing the viewer notices.

Use and tips

  • A water-thinnable acrylic - suitable for brush and airbrush; for an airbrush always thin the paint.
  • Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom.
  • Apply it to plastic after spraying a primer - acrylic holds considerably better than on smooth plastic.
  • Spray in thin coats; the interior is best left flat and fine-tuned with a wash in the recesses.
  • Dried 3rd Generation acrylic takes oil paints, washes and enamel techniques afterwards - so you can weather the interior with no risk of dissolving what is underneath.

Who the paint is for

For modelers who build British aircraft of the Second World War and want the cockpit in a shade correct for the period, whether they build straight from the box or add photo-etched or resin interior details. A beginner painting with a brush will appreciate it just as much as an advanced airbrush user.

A modeling paint for modeling use; it is not a toy and not a kit. Keep out of the reach of children, work in a ventilated room and use a respirator and eye protection when airbrushing. Do not pour paint residues down the drain.

FAQ

It is a water-based acrylic from the AK interactive 3rd Generation acrylic range. It thins with water or an acrylic thinner - lacquer thinner does not belong in it.

We do not recommend it. Interior shades are tied to a particular air force - a British cockpit has a different tone from a German or an American one, and with an open cockpit it shows.

Yes, the AIR range is made for the airbrush. Thin the paint before spraying and shake the bottle thoroughly.
