The package contains five pads in a format of 100 x 80 millimeters. The core is foamed PVC five millimeters thick, which holds its shape and does not give, so the surface being sanded stays flat. The abrasive is applied on both sides, so a single pad lasts for twice the work. The palm-sized format is comfortable to hold and at the same time covers the whole side of a fuselage in one pass.
This grit is the middle step. It comes after coarse cleaning up, levels the grooves left by a coarser abrasive and prepares the surface for fine grits and a surfacer. It suits the flat sides of fuselages, the floors of cargo beds, floor panels and everywhere an edge is meant to stay sharp, because a soft sanding sponge would round it off. It serves just as well when leveling cured filler at a joint.
The abrasive will take water, and wet sanding reduces flying dust and the surface clogs more slowly. You can lay the pad on the table and run the part over it, which works well on large mating surfaces and on chassis plates which have to sit down with no gap. The material cannot be cut, so for small folds and curves reach for the flexible variant. After work, rinse the surface and let it dry, which gets rid of the settled slurry.
