A photo-etched set from Eduard for a model of the Sea King HU.5 helicopter in 1:48 scale. It replaces parts that cannot be produced thin enough in plastic.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Sea King is a large twin-engine naval helicopter with a boat-shaped fuselage bottom, which lets it alight on water as well. The Royal Navy operated it in several versions, and the HU.5 designation belongs to the version for utility and rescue tasks, that is to a machine that differs from the anti-submarine versions above all in its interior fittings. That is exactly why it pays to attend to detail on a model: the silhouette is well known and the viewer's eye goes to the small things.
The set holds photo-etched parts in 1:48 scale for the stated type. Etched metal replaces the sections that are in reality as thin as sheet and that, for technological reasons, come out more robust in injection-molded plastic, so that once they are fitted the model looks finer.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface rather than by breaking them out. Make the bends against a sharp edge and press along the whole length at once. They are glued with super glue in a minute amount, applied for instance with the point of a pin. Degrease the surfaces before painting and apply a primer, as a coat holds badly on bare metal. Plan the fitting in advance, as some of the parts belong inside before the fuselage is closed.
The set is for the modeler who wants to move a kit closer to the real subject. Tweezers with fine jaws and good lighting over the workspace will make the job markedly easier. The package contains photo-etched parts only; the model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
