Responsibility details are not available.
A push scriber of tungsten steel, with a flat edge 1.8 mm wide. It belongs to the widest tools of the range and is used on grooves, cut-outs and surfaces, where it is a matter of removing material rather than of suggesting fine detail.
With wide scribers, ergonomics counts for more than with fine ones. The tool is held much like a pencil, but with a finger braced as close to the working part as possible, so that the path of the stroke can be controlled. The part should not lie loose on the table, because every slight turn means running off the line. It pays to hold it with the other hand, brace it against the edge of the mat or clamp it in a vise with soft jaws. Light coming from the side matters just as much, because it is side lighting that reveals the groove, the burr and the irregularities that are invisible in direct light.
For modelers who alter parts in larger scales and need a tool with a wide cut, and for builders of dioramas and accessories from plastic profiles.
A wide sharp edge carries a greater risk of injury if it runs off. Work with the part secured against movement, always guide the stroke away from your body and put the tool down with the tip pointing away from you.
