Turquoise Green - Quick Gen Color

Turquoise Green is a shade of the Quick Gen Color acrylic range from AK Interactive. It is a water-thinnable acrylic intended mainly for figures and gaming models. Turquoise green lies on the boundary between green and blue, and in modeling it suits anywhere the green is meant to be cool and a little unnatural: fantasy fabrics, patinated copper on small accessories, prominent features of gaming armies. On large areas of scale models it is used rather rarely, and all the better as an accent.

Dry versus cured

With acrylic there is a difference between paint dry to the touch and paint genuinely cured. The surface tends to be dry within minutes, but the film of the binder goes on maturing for several hours up to a day and gains its mechanical resistance. The practical consequence is simple: the paint will take handling and further coats quickly, but anything that works by pressure or tack will have to wait. Masking tape stuck onto a freshly painted figure will pull the paint off even after an hour, although the surface is dry to the touch. The same goes for clamping into a holder, taping over and sanding. Leave the painted part overnight and the next step will hold no surprises.

Use

• It is thinned with water or acrylic thinner, not with lacquer thinner.
• Before masking, clamping or sanding let the paint cure, ideally overnight.
• Mix the bottle properly before applying.
• The shade is strong and on a figure it works best as an accent against muted colors.
