The Czech edition of the issue of The Weathering Magazine series devoted to the subject of die cast, that is to finished metal models and their treatment.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Weathering Magazine is a series of themed issues, each of which keeps to one field. This issue turns around die cast models, that is around finished metal models that are sold already painted and assembled. A modeler comes to them differently from a kit: nothing is glued or built, but instead the question is how to turn factory smoothness into a machine that stood somewhere, drove and grew old. The edition is in Czech, so puzzling out procedures in a foreign language falls away.
A metal model usually has an even glossy finish with no wear at all, and it is precisely that perfection that gives it away. The treatment therefore aims at what arises on a real machine through use: settled dust, darker shadows in the seams, rubbing on the edges, traces left by rain. Anyone who wants to go further takes the model apart and repaints it entirely, which means degreasing, a suitable primer for metal and careful masking of the glazing.
For a modeler who has finished metal models at home and wants to do something with them, and for a collector who is bothered that a display case looks like a shop window. It will serve builders of plastic models as well, because the procedures for working on a surface run across both worlds.
Models, paints and pigments are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
