The grayish shade Italian Air Force Tornado Interiors FS26329 is intended for the interiors of Italian Air Force machines, as the word Interiors in the name suggests. The manufacturer gives it the designation FS26329 to the American Federal Standard, which also describes the colors of the interior spaces of modern combat aircraft.
The inside of a cockpit is visible on a model only through the canopy, but for that very reason it decides the credibility of the result more than its area would suggest. On modern machines the color of the interior spaces does not follow the camouflage scheme of the exterior - it has a different job and tends to be chosen so the pilot can make out the controls well and is not dazzled by reflections. On combat aircraft of the postwar generation, muted gray tones therefore became established, and they differ noticeably from the exterior colors.
