Tamiya X-21 Flat Base – a flattening additive of 10 ml (the enamel line)

Tamiya X-21 Flat Base is not a paint but a flattening additive of 10 ml. It is added to gloss paints and reduces their sheen all the way to matte. This item belongs to the Tamiya enamel line, so mix it into gloss enamel paints and thin it with the X-20 enamel thinner (without the letter A).

What it is and what it is not

• it is a flattening (matting) additive for paint, not a paint in its own right
• it is not a matte clear coat and not a ready overcoat – it is not applied as a paint by itself
• it has no covering shade of its own, it only changes the degree of sheen

Use

• add a small amount to a gloss enamel paint and stir it in
• the more additive, the more matte the surface; too much leads to a milky haze
• thin the mixture with the Tamiya X-20 enamel thinner
