About product

Old Propeller 1:32 - lozenge for the upper and lower wing surfaces of the Fokker D.VII (Alb.)

This sheet is not a kit. These are waterslide decals in 1:32 scale used to carry the diamond covering onto the upper and lower surfaces of both wings of a Fokker D.VII biplane model. The sheet combines the four-color and the five-color version of the pattern, because on the real subject the upper and lower surfaces were not covered with the same fabric. The pattern is worked out for machines from the Albatros production.

The real subject

The Fokker D.VII was a German single-seat fighter biplane from the end of the First World War. Besides the parent company it was also built by the Albatros works. The covering differed between the individual manufacturers in its division as well as in the way it was applied, which is why decal sets are prepared separately for each production line. The printed covering fabric existed in a four-color and a five-color version; the lighter and the darker print were used depending on whether the surface was seen from above or from below.

Application tips

In 1:32 scale the wings of a biplane are the largest continuous areas on the whole model, so lay the individual parts out dry first and work out where the joints will be and how the pattern will be oriented; once the film is down, there is no turning it. The base has to be smooth and glossy. Soak the decals briefly and carry them onto the wet wing together with the backing paper so that the large film does not roll up. Squeeze the water out with a soft brush from the center toward the edges and go slowly, because a bubble under a large area cannot be squeezed back out. Treat the leading and trailing edge, the cutouts and the wing roots with decal softener. Once it is dry, gloss clear follows, then any weathering and finally a flat or satin coat to even the surface out.

Who the sheet is for

  • Builders of large First World War biplanes in 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who want to cover both wings from above and from below
  • Builds of machines from the Albatros production
  • Advanced modelers used to large-area decals

This is an accessory for a model. The model itself, paints, clear coats and decal softener are not included in the package.
