A large injection-molded plastic kit of the supersonic Panavia Tornado combat aircraft in the ECR version in the attractive 1:32 scale from Italeri. The set is richly broken down and contains photo-etched parts, rubber tires and a number of movable elements. Builders who want a large and detailed piece for a collection will appreciate this extensive model.
The Tornado came about as a joint project of Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom to create a multi-role combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing and a pair of RB199 engines, capable of low-level penetration strikes. The ECR (Electronic Combat and Reconnaissance) version was developed by Italy and Germany for the suppression of enemy air defenses, electronic warfare and reconnaissance. It carries specialized equipment for those tasks.
Given its size, work in sections and keep checking that the parts line up. Use thin modeling cement on the plastic, fill the gaps and sand them back. The cockpit and the landing gear bays come out well after a wash is applied. Treat the surface with a primer, apply the shades with an airbrush and lay on gloss varnish before the decals. The movable variable-geometry wings are best masked off and painted in parts.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
