A set from the Chinese manufacturer Voyager Model, aimed at modern American transport subjects. It is cut for the Trumpeter 01015 plastic kit of the tractor and semi-trailer and supplements it with parts that cannot be made thin enough from injection-molded plastic. The model of the vehicle is not in the package.
The M915 is the military version of a production road semi-trailer tractor. Unlike tactical trucks it is not a cross-country machine but a long-haul hauler, which in the logistics chain carries semi-trailers over surfaced roads between depots, ports and assembly areas. The M872 semi-trailer is a flatbed semi-trailer meant for the same purpose, for carrying pallets, containers and equipment. The combination of tractor and semi-trailer is a typical sight on a supply route, and that is precisely why it is a rewarding subject for logistics dioramas, where the other models tend to be combat vehicles.
Photo-etched brass tends to come from the factory harder than forming would require. On parts that have to be bent sharply or wrapped around a rounded shape it pays to anneal them first: warm the part briefly over a flame until it changes color slightly and let it cool freely. The brass softens, the bend then goes without cracking and the part keeps its shape. Do not overdo it, because overheated sheet becomes brittle and falls apart. After annealing, degrease the part, because residues of grease and oxides prevent both gluing and the adhesion of primer.
This is an add-on set, not a model. The basic plastic kit, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
