A photo-etched add-on set from Voyager Model for a model of the Chinese ZBD-04 infantry fighting vehicle in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle but brass side skirts, which replace the plastic parts from the Hobby Boss 82453 kit. The difference shows mainly at the edge of a skirt seen from the side: in this scale plastic comes across as armor, brass as sheet.
The ZBD-04 is a Chinese tracked infantry fighting vehicle taken into service in the first decade of the 21st century. It carries a turret with a 100 mm gun and a 30 mm autocannon and space for a dismount squad. The side skirts screen the upper part of the running gear; besides protection they also limit the dust thrown up, and on tracked vehicles they markedly determine the silhouette seen from the side.
With this set the dispensing of cyanoacrylate decides it. Thin glue straight from the bottle runs under the whole part and dulls the surrounding surface; so put a drop on a piece of film and carry it with the tip of a needle or a wire in small spots. On long joints a gel version is better, as it gives a few seconds to align the position. If glue gets where it should not, let it dry and remove the residue mechanically, not with solvent. Glue a skirt along one fixed reference edge and keep checking that it is parallel with the longitudinal axis of the hull. Before painting, degrease the whole thing, spray it with a base and add dust shades to the lower part of the cover, because that is where most of the dirt collects on the real thing.
The set is unassembled and unpainted. The model of the vehicle, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
