1:35 Rifles M1,Winchest.,Colt 0.45/43

Small arms M1, Winchester and .45 caliber Colt in 1:35 scale (Pavla models)

This is not a kit but a set of small castings of small arms for completing figures and models of vehicles in 1:35 scale. According to the name it contains rifle-type weapons of the M1 and Winchester types and a .45 caliber pistol. Such small items tend to be the weakest point of ordinary kits, because a split injection mold cannot deliver a thin barrel or the fine shapes of a stock.

What it is suited to

The weapons are used in the hands of figures, in the load on a vehicle, leaning against a crate in a scene or set down in an interior. A small but correctly shaped detail in the foreground can move the impression of a whole scene further than long hours of work on large areas. In 1:35 scale the weapons are large enough for the viewer to recognize the type, so it pays to paint them carefully.

Usage and painting tips

Wash the castings free of mold release agent and separate them from the blocks with a sharp scalpel or a saw, never with nippers, which will break a thin barrel. The base is a dark metallic shade, which takes a dry brush well: a lighter metal passed lightly over it will draw out the edges and the sharp lines. Paint the wooden parts brown with a warm undertone and, once they have dried, go over them with a thin oil shade so that an irregular wood structure appears. A sling can be suggested with a strip of thin film or foil. They are attached with cyanoacrylate glue, ideally in gel form, which gives time to set them in place.
