An add-on set for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire F Mk. 22 in 1:72 scale. It contains replacement exhausts and cannon barrels, the two details that catch the eye first on a model.

The Supermarine Spitfire F Mk. 22 was one of the last production versions of the famous British fighter. Compared with the wartime machines it had a more powerful Rolls-Royce Griffon V12, a new wing and cannon armament. The longer engine cowling with a row of exhaust stubs on both sides and the barrels protruding from the wing leading edge are among its most conspicuous features.
The set brings together two groups of parts. The replacement exhausts have a crisper outline and a more legible muzzle shape than the parts from the kit, while the cannon barrels offer a symmetrical circular section and a straight axis, which is hard to hold on a part from a two-half mold. The parts are intended for 1:72 scale and for the late Spitfire version; on a particular kit, check the seating and the length of the parts beforehand.
The parts are not polystyrene, so glue them with super glue. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the rest down. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Glue the barrels into the wing only after painting, and before the glue sets check that both point the same way and protrude equally far. It pays to paint the exhausts off the model in shades of burnt steel and rust and to fit them at the very end. The exact preparation procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The set suits modelers who build late Spitfires and want to lift the level of the whole model with two small replacements. Working with small parts in 1:72 scale calls for tweezers and a steady hand.
