This photo-etched brass set in 1:35 scale serves to complete a plastic kit of the German Tiger II heavy tank, commonly called the King Tiger, in the configuration with the early turret type with a rounded front. It is not a kit of the vehicle but an accessory for the modeler: the metal parts replace thick-walled plastic sheet and add detail that molding does not allow. The set is developed for the Takom 2096 kit.
The Tiger II was the heaviest series-built German tank of the Second World War, armed with a long 88 mm gun. The first examples built carried a turret with a rounded front and curved sides, which modelers know under the Porsche designation; later vehicles received a turret with a flat front. In shape the machine is marked out by the sloped armor of the hull, wide combat tracks and large fenders, which on a model are a classic candidate for replacement by photo-etched parts.
Brass will not stick to plastic or to other brass with modeling cement for plastic; you need cyanoacrylate, that is super glue. The amount is the key. Put a drop on a piece of old plastic and apply it from there with the tip of a needle or a thin wire, so that only a bare minimum reaches the part. Excess glue runs out, floods the fine structure of the photo-etched parts and leaves a shiny patch once sanded. On larger surfaces a gel version helps, as it does not run and gives a few seconds to adjust the position of a part. Reinforce a joint under bending stress with a small drop from behind, where it will not be seen.
A photo-etched set is an accessory for modelers; it is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
