Self-adhesive masks for the cockpit glazing of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A series fighter in 1:48 scale. Prepared for the Dragon model, with parts for the outer and the inner framing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Fw 190 came about as a deliberate counterpart to the standard German fighter of the day: instead of an inline engine it received a massive radial, instead of narrow landing gear a wide track, and instead of mechanical rods electrical operation of most of its systems. It flew in the summer of 1939 and from its commitment over France it counted as a machine that could break away from its opponents at low altitude. The A series went through many changes of armament and armor and became the most numerous branch of the whole family. The type was given the nickname Würger, that is shrike, after the bird of prey that impales its quarry on thorns. Production ran at several firms at the same time and the individual batches differed even in small details on the cockpit cover.
The cockpit is covered by a sliding teardrop canopy that has relatively few frames but a great deal of curved surface. It is precisely on a double curve that tape cut by hand holds worst and in a corner it almost always lifts. The die-cut parts of this set have their shape derived from the molding, so they seat on a rounded surface without wrinkles and the frame comes out equally wide along its whole length after spraying.
If you are building a machine with an armored rear headrest, it is best to finish the cockpit before the canopy is masked and fitted. Taking finished glazing off a second time seldom happens without fingerprints being left on the inner side.
