An injection-molded plastic kit of the French Nieuport 11/16 Bébé fighter biplane of the First World War in 1:48 scale from Smer. The box allows either the 11 or the 16 variant to be built; for the exact contents and the choice of markings go by the enclosed instructions. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Nieuport 11, nicknamed Bébé for its small size, was a light and agile fighter biplane with a sesquiplane layout, in which the lower wing is markedly narrower than the upper one. It was powered by a rotary engine and armed with a machine gun above the upper wing, firing outside the propeller disc. Its entry into service in 1916 helped the Allies to turn back the so-called Fokker Scourge; the 16 version received a more powerful engine.
Seat the V-shaped interplane struts accurately and mind the rigging: add the bracing wires only after the paintwork is finished. The rotary engine and the machine gun above the wing deserve special attention when painting. Spray the base over a primer; the covering of the fabric surfaces comes out well with a fine wash into the ribbing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
