A plastic kit of the reconnaissance Spitfire PR Mk XI in 1:72 scale from Kovozavody Prostejov, in a release focused on the machines of the Allied command in South East Asia.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Spitfire PR Mk XI was the unarmed reconnaissance version of the famous British fighter. Instead of armament it carried photographic equipment and an enlarged fuel load, so that it could reach distant targets and return with the pictures. It was powered by a Merlin, a V12 engine. Its recognition features are the clean wing without guns and the deeper cowling over the forward fuselage.
The abbreviation in the name refers to the Allied command for South East Asia. Aircraft operating in that area carried modified national insignia so that they could not be mistaken for the enemy, and their finishes were adapted to the local climate.
It is a classic injection-molded polystyrene kit meant for gluing and painting, together with decals and instructions. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
It will be appreciated by a modeler with basic experience of glued kits who is looking for a less usual form of the Spitfire than the ordinary fighter versions. The model is rewarding for collectors of reconnaissance aircraft as well.
Paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
