Imitations of the glass of the observation devices of the M60A3 tank in 1:35 replace painted vision blocks with items that have a sharp edge and a gloss of their own. The target kit: Tamiya.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set belongs among the finishing add-ons. Onto a finished and painted model of the M60A3 tank in 1:35 it adds the glass of the observation devices, that is of the periscopes and the vision blocks of the commander's cupola. In itself it is not a kit and contains no structural part.
Older American tanks have their optics made as angular blocks with a distinct rim, not as small round lenses. It is exactly the edge that painting by hand cannot manage. A brush blurs it, paint wicks into the corner and the face of the glass ends up either rounded or run over the rim. A finished item has its edge cut and the transition between the glass and the metal stays sharp exactly where it should be. On the commander's cupola, where there are several vision blocks side by side, that difference adds up.
An angular vision block is a few millimeters across in 1:35. That is enough for the edge and the reflection to show on it, and at the same time too little for comfortable work with a brush. In 1:72 the same face would fall below the resolution at which separate glass means anything, and plain dark paint would do there. Add-ons of this type are therefore made for one scale and for the layout of the devices on the Tamiya kit.
For the builder of American Cold War armor in 1:35 who wants the vision blocks clean and sharp, and for the modeler held back by the laborious painting of small angular faces.
This is an add-on to a plastic model. The base Tamiya kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.
