This is not a kit of the motorcycle, but an accessory for a model you are already building or have built. The set addresses a single but highly visible assembly: the final drive, that is, the drive chain and its connection to the sprockets. The seventh item in Top Studio's chain range is cut for the racing quarter-liter Honda RS250RW, a factory machine of the 250 cc class of the world road racing championship, in 1:12 scale.
On a plastic model the chain tends to be the weakest place of the whole tail. A molded part has blanked-off gaps between the links, blunt rollers and a shape so rigid that it does not allow even a natural sag of the upper run. A replacement set works with individual links, so the chain follows the real geometry: it wraps around the sprocket, seats into the teeth and leaves a gap between the swingarm and the sprocket that is clearly discernible on photographs of racing machines. Along with the chain, the pitch of the links and the seating on the rear sprocket are addressed as well, so that the chain neither jumps nor overhangs anywhere.
First just fit the chain dry and measure the distance between the front sprocket and the rear sprocket. The length is tuned by adding or removing links, never by stretching. Finish the assembly only at the moment when the swingarm is done and the rear wheel sits in its place, otherwise you will not get to it later. Degrease the parts before gluing and make the joints with super glue applied with the tip of a pin in a minimal amount. Leave the upper run with a slight sag, as a perfectly taut chain looks lifeless on a model. Keep the shade darker and more matte than bare metal, as lubricant and dust cling to the run of a real chain.
The set is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
