The designation double set in the name means that the package holds two complete models, so you can build a pair of aircraft. It is short-run injection-molded plastic: the parts have thicker sprue gates, locating pins are missing and the fit is tried dry before gluing.
The Pfalz D.IIIa was a German single-seat fighter biplane of the period of the First World War. Its fuselage had a monocoque structure from plywood strips, which gave it a characteristic smooth shape without stiffeners. It was powered by an inline water-cooled engine and its armament consisted of a pair of synchronized machine guns. The D.IIIa version differed from the original D.III in details of the airframe and in the placement of the armament.
In 1:144 scale the main obstacle is the biplane arrangement. The surest procedure is to glue the fuselage, paint both wings and the fuselage separately and join them only at the end. Shorten the struts gradually and try them dry; as soon as you shorten one too far, it carries into the whole geometry. Mark the dihedral and the gap between the wings onto a paper template beforehand and build according to it. Glue with thin cement for plastic in a minimal amount, and on the struts a drop of cyanoacrylate glue proves its worth. Apply a thin primer before painting; paint the fabric covering and the plywood fuselage separately, so that the difference in material shows. The rigging wires can be marked with thin fishing line only once the decals have been applied and clear-coated over.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
