A BMW E36 Touring conversion with the M package, 1:24 scale

An add-on conversion set in 1:24 scale that turns the Hasegawa kit into a BMW E36 Touring in the version with the M package. It is not a kit of its own but a set of parts you add to one.

The real subject

The E36 is the third generation of the BMW 3 Series, and the Touring is its wagon version of the 1990s. Against the sedan it has an extended roof, a differently resolved rear side window and a fifth door, so the silhouette reads as calmer and longer. The M package can be recognized by the deeper bumpers and sills, which visually lower the car. It is exactly this combination, a practical wagon with a sharper body package, that is among the things builders choose most often on the E36.

Building tips

• Read the instructions right through first and compare the parts with the kit, so that you know what is to be cut off the original parts.
• Make the cuts clear of the final edge and sand down to the shape; material comes off more easily than it goes back on.
• Wash and degrease the parts before painting; the paint will not hold on an unwashed surface.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate; it holds whatever the parts are made of.
• Fill and sand back the gaps after joining the parts; every unevenness shows under the paint on a body.
