It covers the current generation of the Nissan Z sports coupe with the internal designation RZ34, which is sold on the Japanese market under the traditional name Fairlady Z. Tamiya is among the manufacturers with a reputation for accurate part fit, so the model is a good choice even for modelers who are only starting out with car kits.
The Nissan Z continues a long line of sports coupes that began with the 240Z at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. The current generation refers to that deliberately: the shape of the nose with its rectangular radiator opening recalls the first Z, while the tail lights point to the 300ZX of the 1990s. Under the hood is a turbocharged V6 with a pair of turbochargers and rear-wheel drive, and the gearbox is offered in both manual and automatic form. The coupe keeps the classic layout of a two-seat sports car with a long hood and a short tail.
The body of a modern coupe has smooth surfaces and soft transitions, so it pays to sand the surface carefully and spray a filler primer before the color coat. Apply the paint with an airbrush in thin coats. Two-tone finishes with a dark roof, typical of the real car, call for precise masking; remove the mask at the point when the paint has just set. Apply the decals onto a gloss base and seal them with a clear coat. The interior comes alive with semi-flat shades and a light accenting of the instruments, and the wheels and brakes deserve metallic shades with a subdued sheen.
