An injection-molded plastic kit from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa in 1:24 scale from its range of historic automobiles. It works out the early form of the first generation Toyota MR2 with the internal designation AW11 from 1984, and in the G-Limited equipment level with a moon roof. The early form differs from the later ones in details of the body and the interior, so the kit is clearly aimed at the first years of production.
The Toyota MR2 was introduced in 1984 as the first Japanese series-produced car with a mid-mounted engine. The two-seat coupe was built on a light body with sharp edges, pop-up headlights and drive to the rear wheels. The engine was mounted transversely behind the seats, which gave the car markedly different handling from the coupes of the time with the engine at the front. The sixteen-valve 4A-GE unit of 1.6 liters became the recognition mark of the whole range. The G-Limited equipment level was among the higher ones on the Japanese market, and a moon roof was a popular option with it.
A body with sharp edges forgives little, so sand the parting seams down carefully and check them under the primer. Glue with a thin cement for plastic, which is drawn into the joint by capillary action. The two-tone finish typical of cars of the middle of the nineteen-eighties calls for careful masking; take the masks off while the paint is still only touch-dry, not after it has cured completely. The pop-up headlights and their frames deserve special attention, because they are highly visible on the model. Deal with the interior in matte shades and tell the plastics apart by a fine difference in saturation.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
