Responsibility details are not available.
A standalone set of seat harness straps for the pilot's seat of a model of the Curtiss Hawk 81-A2 aircraft in 1:32 scale. It is neither a kit nor a complete photo-etch but a narrowly aimed accessory that deals with a single, yet very visible detail of the interior. The straps are of steel sheet and come printed in color, so they are glued on straight away without painting. Eduard is a Czech maker and steel harness straps are among its most used accessories of all.
Steel photo-etch differs from brass in that it keeps its shape after bending. A strap can be formed into a natural sag over the edge of the seat or thrown over the side of the cockpit and does not spring back flat. Plastic straps out of the mold are flat and stiff, while a decal solution follows the shape of the seat without any volume of its own. In 1:32 scale the difference shows especially well, because the cockpit is large and can be looked into with the canopy open.
Cut the parts off with a scalpel rather than snapping them, and level the edges gently after cutting. Form the straps with smooth-jawed tweezers, so as not to scratch the printing; form them in small steps. Glue with a spot of thin cyanoacrylate applied with a toothpick, or with a glue made for photo-etch, which gives time to adjust the position. Wipe any excess glue off at once; once dry it would leave a matte patch on the printed surface. The seat and the straps are best brought out at the end with a dark wash and a light dry brush.
The set is an accessory to a plastic model. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
