Why it pays to combine the variants

Real drums differ from one another in the pressing of the body, in the number of hoops and in the shape of the lid. When a modeler builds a pile from a single shape, the eye catches it at once and the result looks like a shelf of mass-produced goods. By mixing variant 2 with the other pieces of the line, a group arises that looks like clutter gathered over time, that is exactly the way things go in yards and on ramps.

How to paint the drums

It works well to paint the whole package at once in several different base shades and only then decide which pieces will go to the front and which will fall into the second plane. Lettering and markings are suggested in this scale with a fine brush as a small light patch. Nobody expects readable text here; indeed it would look distracting. A lighter tone on the edges and a darker shadow under the hoops will give the cylinder its shape. Fine dust applied at the bottom will take care of the rest of the impression.
