1/35 1/48 Fantasy Candles Set

What the set offers

This is an accessory for building dioramas: a set of candles in a fantasy key, intended for 1:35 and 1:48 scale. Small things of this kind decide whether a scene looks inhabited or like an empty backdrop. A candle on a table, by an altar, in a niche in a wall or in the hand of a figure gives a scene a point at which the eye stops, and at the same time tells the viewer the time of day and the mood of the whole picture.

Where it fits

It will serve in the interiors of castles, taverns, dungeons and wizards' workrooms, but it will do just as well in a historical diorama or in a scene without electric lighting. Both of the scales named are among the most widespread for figures as well as for vehicles, so the set can be combined with figures you already have under way.

Building and painting tips

Cut excess material away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the remainder carefully. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts, choose the glue according to the material given on the package and the particular procedure according to the manufacturer's instructions. Do not paint the wax pure white: a base in a broken cream shade with a shadow toward warm gray looks truer, and bring out running wax with a lighter cast on the edges. Play the surroundings of a candle toward a warm tone, so that the scene looks lit, and darken the shadow under the candlestick instead. A restrained sheen on the edge of the wax gives the impression that it is burning right now.
