The real subject

The 17-pounder gun was the British answer to the strengthening German armor and was among the most effective anti-armor weapons the Allies deployed in Europe. The barrel has a caliber of 76.2 mm and with it an unusually large cartridge case, which gave the weapon a high muzzle velocity. It served in two forms: as a towed anti-tank gun on a splayed carriage and as tank armament. Among tanks it was given to the Sherman Firefly, the Achilles tank destroyer and the Challenger tank. The round is a fixed one, so the projectile is firmly joined to the cartridge case and the whole thing is conspicuously long compared with the more common types.

Building and painting tips

Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the surface so that the base of the cartridge case stays flat and the round can be stood up. Wash and degrease before painting; choose the glue according to the material of the parts, and cyanoacrylate will serve as a universal choice. A metallic sheen on the cartridge case against a matte projectile gives the ammunition depth, and a colored band on the tip sets the individual kinds of projectile apart according to what the scene is meant to tell.
