1:35 Korean War USMC M46 Patton is a Star Decals set with markings for the M46 Patton tanks of the US Marine Corps from the Korean War.
Responsibility details are not available.
The decal set is aimed at a single type, the American medium tank M46 Patton in Marine Corps service during the Korean War. That sets it apart from the mixed sheets that cover several vehicles at once: it concentrates on one machine and one theater. It is not a kit but markings for a model you obtain separately.
The M46 came about by rebuilding the heavy tank M26 Pershing. That had a good 90 mm gun but suffered from an underpowered drivetrain, so it was given a new gasoline engine and a new transmission with a torque converter. The result was substantially more mobile and it was the first American tank to carry the Patton name. The M46 reached Korea in 1950 as an answer to the Soviet T-34-85 tanks in North Korean service. Tank versus tank combat made up only a small part of its use in the end. Most of the time the Pattons served as mobile fire support for the infantry on ridges and slopes, where the ability to climb a hill came in handier than armored superiority.
Compared with the Sherman the Patton has smoother and more rounded shapes, above all the front of the hull and the sides of the turret, so the markings seat on an area that curves away under them. Place the design on a well-polished gloss base and press it down with a damp brush from the center toward the edges. With pairs of markings on both sides, measure the position in advance, because asymmetry is conspicuous in a large scale. Once it has dried, cover everything with a matte varnish and build the weathering up from fine dust on the running gear upwards.
