The manufacturer is Eduard, a Czech company with a long tradition in making photo-etched accessories. The M109 is an American tracked 155 mm self-propelled howitzer that has stayed in service in its successive versions since the 1960s. The A7 designation belongs to the newest form so far: the howitzer received a new chassis derived from the infantry fighting vehicle, a markedly strengthened electrical system and modernized internal electronics, while the turret stayed close in shape to the previous versions. The machine is operated by a sizable crew and in the field it is accompanied by a separate ammunition vehicle.
On military vehicles photo-etched parts pay off most where the plastic is necessarily too thick: on covers, grilles, brackets and small fittings on the hull. Work in sections and glue the parts only after a dry fit, because a photo-etched part is sensitive to the accuracy of its seating. Use a scalpel on a glass or metal mat to separate them, and for bends ideally a bending tool or at least the edge of a razor blade held down with a ruler. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. Only then apply the base shade, filters and finally dust pigments into the crevices, where the fine structure of the etchings shows best.
